The program will recruirt college undergraduatesand first-yea medical students from populations that are under-represented nationally in health-related sciences. The students will undertake a 10-weej period of hands-on laboratory experience durinhg the summer at theMedical College.
Undedr the guidance of MedicalCollege faculty, the students will develoop investigative knowledge and skills, particularly in the arease of cardiovascular, pulmonary, hematologic or sleep The experience is intended to builed valuable skills, self-confidence and interest in the health and aid the successful entry into graduates school or medical school. Dr. Kenneth Simons, senioer associate dean of academic affairs and professor of ophthalmology and andJeannette Vasquez-Vivar, associate professotr of biophysics, will lead the program, callex the Summer Research Education Program to Increasew Diversity in Health Related Research.
